Small Talk-9 Beethoven's Cello Sonata No. 3

I am currently sequencing Beethoven's Cello Sonata No. 3. Since I have already performed Kreutzer, I decided to work on a cello version of Kreutzer's Sonata No. 3.

This piece is said to be groundbreaking in the realm of cello sonatas. In the Kreutzer Sonata, the violin and piano engage in a magnificent rivalry, creating a stunning musical world. Similarly, in this cello sonata, Beethoven is considered revolutionary because he was the first to elevate the cello from its traditional basso continuo role to an equal partner with the piano. In other words, this work became the forerunner of the many cello sonatas composed thereafter.

Just as the opening violin passage in Kreutzer seems to foreshadow the entire piece, the main theme used at the beginning of this cello sonata is brilliantly crafted to fully showcase the beauty of the cello’s tone. This theme appears multiple times throughout the piece.

For the sound library, I used Emotional Cello by Best Service. This library includes a wide range of cello playing techniques, making it quite versatile and convenient to use. However, since the attack of each note varies slightly, a lot of adjustment is needed when synchronizing with the piano during MIDI programming.
