Small Talk - 8 Copyright Strike on YouTube

A copyright strike has been issued on the Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 21 video I previously uploaded to YouTube (see the image below). This is the third time. Each time, I have filed a dispute and had the strike removed. This time as well, I submitted a dispute, stating that the performance was created using a MIDI editor in a DAW.

According to this warning, it appears that my video infringes on Pollini’s album under DG (Deutsche Grammophon). It seems that a part of the third movement is being flagged—the section highlighted in the white box above. The warning was issued immediately after I uploaded the video, so I was first and foremost impressed by YouTube’s copyright detection system.

But since it’s Pollini, I feel honored, yet at the same time, it’s a strange sensation. Despite being a MIDI-sequenced performance, it was flagged as copyright infringement of a CD recording. That said, it also means that the sound I’ve created is convincing enough to be mistaken for the real thing, which makes me a little happy. It’s all thanks to the guidance of the pianist who has been advising me on sound production.
