Elgar "Cello Concert, Op. 85 1st. Mov."

This is Elgar's Cello Concerto, first movement. It is a very impressive piece with the cello in the leading role, and is one of the most famous cello concertos. Both of them are dead now, but Dupré's enthusiastic performance under Barbirolli's direction popularized this piece.

This is the first time for me to start typing a full-scale concerto, so I only typed the first movement. After the solo cello was all typed, strings, woodwind/brass, and timpani were typed in measure by measure. However, even though I typed each measure exactly, I had a lot of trouble getting a head start, especially for the strings. Even with the same sound source, the rise of the strings was fast or slow depending on the articulation, so simply adjusting the delay function did not work well.

I mentioned it before. However, the cadenza at the beginning of this piece took a lot of time. I thought that the way this part was played would determine the overall impression of the piece. By the way, Jacqueline Dupré, I feel that this part is a bit too fast for me, and I get restless when I listen to it. But other than that, the more I listened to it, the more I was impressed with the way the orchestra played in the piece. My teacher praised Barbirolli's conducting.

The solo cello led the orchestra and demanded sounds from various parts, and it was quite difficult to play that game. I listened to several famous recordings other than the Dupré, and I was learning how the woodwinds should play in this part, and so on. However, my teacher gave me a lot of detailed criticisms, and it took me a long time. In particular, the role of the clarinet was something that I was still trying to understand. I really thought that it would be great if there was a conductor's design manual for people like myself, whose level of musical ability is not so high. So it would be a great learning experience if you could provide us with a recording of the rehearsal as well as the actual performance. But I doubt there is much demand for it. My teacher introduced me to the Chikuma Bunko's "World ConductorI read the book by Hidekazu Yoshida. It is a descent describing the rehearsals by Karl Böhm with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (not this piece). I can't go into details here, so if you are interested, you should read this book. I can't go into details here, so if you are interested, you should read this book. Each of these efforts, like peeling off a thin layer of skin, became an image of Karl Böhm's music and the power to convince people.......the process is described with Mr. Yoshida's unique sensibility.
