Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 25 “Cuckoo” (Revised)

This piece, like Sonata No. 24, is also a short piano sonata. It is well known as the “Cuckoo” Sonata. In a letter Beethoven wrote to his publisher, he reportedly instructed that the work be labeled a Sonatine upon publication ? meaning a “small sonata.”

Among Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas, this one is a gentle miniature that evokes peaceful scenes of nature and offers a sense of calm. Rather than telling a story from beginning to end, the music simply gives the feeling of being quietly immersed in nature itself.
